Usually, they’re to be admired tearing through roads or racetracks, leaving behind an unmistakable ferocious wail. But not on this occasion. Over 30 Fezza owners from the Ferrari Owners Club UAE gathered at the Dubai Autordrome for an altogether different purpose: to give kids with special needs a memorable ride in their supercars.
Each one got to sit in the passenger seat of an F430, F355, 360 Modena or 612 Scaglietti as the cars lapped the track. Even a rare F40 and turned up for the occasion.
Organised with the Dubai Community Development Authority, the event was held because the club felt it wanted to give something back to the community. ‘We wanted them to do something different to their daily activities,’ says club president Fred Kamperman. ‘Rather than give money, we wanted to integrate kids with special needs into society. Hopefully, this is a spring board – there’s many more people that we can reach.’
Khalid Al Thani, owner of the limited edition 16M Scuderia, said the whole point was ‘to have the kids enjoy their time and share in our passion for the cars’. Being a convertible fitted with a straight-through exhaust, it will probably be the noise that the youngster sitting in the 16M will remember most clearly.
