It’s taken me a bit of courage to admit this, but I was a bit worried when I bought this car. Not worried in the sense of reliability or depreciation problems, but worried simply that I may end up getting bored of it. I thought I’d immediately get a grip on its handling characteristics and get a true feel for its soul only to find that I didn’t. As is usually the case for most things however, the passage of time can change a lot of things, including my misguided worries about this wonderful little Renault. After having put several more weeks of serious driving into it I can seriously say with all honesty that I have discovered its true soul and love everything about it. The thing I love the most, and which continues to surprise me, is just how well it turns into a corner, sharp as a blade and without a hint of torque-steer, something which plagues almost all front-wheel drive cars. The car is like an extension of my mind, reading my thoughts and turning, braking and reacting exactly when I want it to and never disappointing me with just how much grip I get from all four tires.

After the first 3,000 kilometers the engine truly started to feel better, with more torque at hand, a little more power and a little less harshness. The precision of the gearbox is also improving by the day, enticing me to shift gears just for the sake of it. The short wheel base makes things happen a lot faster compared to larger sports cars, which is a welcome change for me. It seems like child’s play to throw out the rear end and even easier still to get it back in line with the oversteer being immediate yet progressive, allowing easy corrections whenever I want. Thankfully the steering wheel does not have the feeling of being over-assisted by the servo which usually deadens a little too much feedback than you would want unless you were driving around in a Cadillac Deville. I also wouldn’t change a single thing with the suspension system’s set up and tuning and can proudly say that this, the latest addition to evo’s fast fleet, and my new baby, is quite possibly one of the best automotive acquisitions that I have ever made.
