With 2010 been and gone, there’s a sense that everything is well into a new beginning. Business is picking up at work and my family and I are looking for a new place to move into. But with the NSX, I’m relegated to old issues cropping up yet again.
There were a few evenings where I got to enjoy the cool winter evenings, but then one morning, I woke up to the horrific sound of excavators and drills outside my building. Yes, the entire area was being dug up. There was no way the NSX was going to be able to make it out over the huge dips that had been hacked out at the exit. Even my S2000 was finding it difficult.
So there I was with a stranded car. Ok, I guess you have to roll with the punches so I decided I would start it every couple of days and at least get a chance to listen to the beautiful exhaust and engine note resonate around by building’s covered parking. It’s nice to be able to appreciate the little pleasures of the NSX. The car had become a very expensive (though good looking) lounge seat...
Perhaps out of resentment of sitting in the parking garage for so long, the NSX decided to start acting pricey again, and threw the engine check and TCS lights on again. Even if the route out of the building was indeed clear, the car wouldn’t be properly driveable. Yet again.
So it’s with a long sigh that I have to take it back to the garage and fit a new ECU plug-in. This predictably brings some derogatory remarks from friends. My reply is simple, the issues are small and maintenance cheap. Not to mention that it’s an NSX - something you don’t see every day around Dubai. Or the rest of the GCC for that matter. For anyone who doesn’t understand this crazy love for my car, I suggest you watch Eric Bana’s ‘Love the Beast’. That film sums up everything I feel about both my cars. They’re like children, they’ll get sick and you nurse them back to health and continue to enjoy your time with them. Would you just give away your child if they kept on getting sick? I didn’t think so.
